Units of Time: Sessions and Time Slots

Units of Time
During Tourney at Ashford, we will be using a few different units of time to help facilitate play.

Scenes & Time Slots
The most basic unit above and beyond those outlined in the core rules is the scene; a scene is a single thread taking place within a single time slot and is mostly for organizational purposes, having no real rules referring to it. A scene should be properly tagged in its title to designate which time slot it is taking place in. Threads that are listed as taking place in a time slot that is not listed below will be removed. Additionally, a character may only have one scene per time slot per day.

  • Early Morning (6AM to 8AM)
  • Morning (8AM to 10AM)
  • Late Morning (10AM to 12PM)
  • Early Afternoon (12PM to 2PM)
  • Afternoon (2PM to 4PM)
  • Late Afternoon (4PM to 6PM)
  • Early Evening (6PM to 8PM)
  • Evening (8PM to 10PM)
  • Late Evening (10PM to 12AM)
  • Early Night (12AM to 2AM)
  • Night (2AM to 4AM)
  • Late Night(4AM to 6AM)

Days
Twelve timeslots, from Early Morning to Late Night, make up a single day of in character gameplay. Tourney at Ashford will consist of 10 main days of in character play with a wrap-up day at the end. Some qualities refer to being able to be used a number of time per day; these refer to this time period and can be used that number of times during a single twelve time slot cycle that starts with Early Morning and ends with Late Night.

For example, a character could use one such ability in a Late Night slot and then be able to use it in the Early Morning time slot that would follow it. At that point, they would be unable to use it again until the following Early Morning time slot.

During a single day, characters must sleep for a number of hours that are dependent on their character's age - the younger the character, the more they need to sleep; at least half of these hours must be in consecutive time slots. Characters not meeting this requirement will suffer Fatigue. Unlike the "per day" qualities, though, this is measured by any single twelve time slot period and comes into effect in the time slot which would be a full twelve time slots since waking.

Sessions
A session consist of three complete in character days and experience will be granted at the end of each session. Tourney at Ashford will consist of three full sessions and one partial session. Any abilities or rules which refer to a number of times per session make reference to this time period.

Story
A story is the complete game; Tourney at Ashford is a considered a single story for the purposes of any rules referring to such.
"That's what I do - I drink and I know things."
