Bread & Salt
A Red & Black Event
A Red & Black Event
As the Lord Ashford enters the Great Hall, the gathered crowds fall silent - and drop to their knees almost as one at the sight of Prince Baelor and Prince Maekar behind the lord of the castle. Baelor smiles and waves the crowd to their feet; Maekar scowls, dropping into his seat while Lord Ashford speaks.
"Friends, as lord of the castle, I welcome you to Ashford." He smiles - and it seems a sad smile - and gestures to the princes, "And I am glad to welcome our Princes Baelor and Maekar to this celebration of my daughter's name day!" Applause breaks out in the cramped chamber.
He waits for a long moment for the noise to die down. "Before we begin, I offer you all the ancient guest rights of bread and salt. And," he says with a slight smile, "wine to wash it all down with." He claps his hands and the doors to the kitchen open; servants poor from the door with fresh loafs of piping hot bread and pitchers of salt and wine...
The Offer of Bread & Salt
Lord Ashford has offered bread and salt to invoke the ancient guest rights for all in attendance, very literally - piping hot bread sprinkled with salt. Roll a Challenging Status (Breeding) test; gain one Hospitality point for each degree of success.
A Word to the Host
With the acceptance of bread and salt, you now have the attention of the room to speak some words to your host. Roll a Challenging Persuasion (Convince) or Deception (Bluff) test to offer your thanks to your host; gain one Hospitality point for each degree of success.
A Toast to the Princes!
And now, a toast! An offer of wine is made; as it's poured, your host looks at you expectantly, obviously waiting for a toast. Choose a prince to toast and roll a Challenging test with a number of dice equal to your Hospitality points. Your chosen prince will receive a number of Toasts equal to the degrees of success you roll.
