The Tourney at Ashford

Slightly drunk, Warryn came to the Algood tents with confidence and swagger. After drinking with the smallfolk boy, he realized that he met an Algood once. The Lord Algood actually. Well. Time to make friends. Or something.

He flagged one of the servants. "I'm looking for Lord Algood? Ser Warryn Wydman. We've met."

Mistaken often for a simple servant girl, Septa Braya looked at the knight, tilting her head slightly to one side, her ginger hair wrapped in cloth to be kept away from her face. She wore a simple dress, dark in colour.

"Yes, he can be found by the fire pit," she motioned in a direction. "I caution you, he is in a contemplative mood this evening," she added with a quieter tone.

"Thank you..." Warryn squinted at the woman. "Thank you." He gave up on identifying her.

"Contemplation is good. I should do it more." He started towards the fire pit.

"Contemplation is a worthy pursuit," she agrees, and watches him off, once he's out of sight, she ducks into a tent.

Further in the camp, Warryn follows the campfire light, and there indeed is the Lord Algood. A cup between his hands, he stares intently into the flame, captivated by how it dances. A cloak is draped across his shoulders, his blond hair pulled back and tied at the nape of his neck. He casts a somber shadow of darkness against the silhouette of fire.

The approach of the Wydman leads Arryk to raise his eyes, and there is a moment of pause. Then a wash of recognition. "Come join me if that's your wish."

Warryn smiled, and moved closer. "Thank you Lord Algood. You look well, the years have been kind to you." He took the offered seat.

"I hope I'm not bothering?"

His eyes narrow momentarily. "Not the word I would use; kind. Not the word, no, but I have my health, and my wife, and so on," he mused, gaze drifting to the flames, then back to the Wydman.

"You're familiar. We've met before, forgive me, my thoughts are far away. They are returning. But to answer your question, you're no bother. Fine company, now I remember. Another tourney, another field, another time and place, our paths crossed then."

"Aye. Ser Warryn Wydman, heir to Old Peake. I wasn't, back then." He looked at the man in thought. "You were a good knight there. Kind, just. It was my first tourney as a participant."

He huddled closer to the flames, his hands held together. "Health is important." His tone was monotone. "I had a wife." His voice was quiet. "But I'm not here to bring sadness to your place."

"I bring enough sadness for the pair of us, more than enough. Your words warm me, much like this fire. Let us share another shard of time together then, and prove we are better men than we were."

Warryn frowned. "Sorry to hear that Lord Algood." He sighed, but forced a smile. "How do you find the Reach so far?"

"It is ...quiet. Without the laughter of children, I find life to be too quiet. However, the celebration of the young lady Ashford's nameday is plenty cause to tarry out. And yourself?"

"Soft." Replied Warryn truthfully. "The guards are cute, but... there is no imminent threat." He sighed. "It is a welcome change of pace, but I am worried what'll it mean for me to when we return home."

"As long as you remain on your ready, when you return home you'll be as good as where you left off. It's appurtenant to make connections and seek out forging alliances in settings such as these, it's not often so many players from different houses across Westeros gather, and for such a blessing as a daughters nameday, at that."

Warryn nodded. "Seems like wise council from a wise lord." He leaned back a bit, the cold seeping into him, even as the fire was near.

"Your House is doing the same I assume? This tourney else... I have not seen so many knights gather in quite some time."

"Aye, networking, it seems, takes up a large quantity of my time, and for good reason."

Arryk leaned forward in his resting spot, placing elbows on knees, and his gaze returned to the fire before them. Pensive.

Warryn nodded. "Aye... networking. Friends can mean a lot, even if far from each other..."

"Considering, yes; but not to put trust in men without merit. A Lord cannot go blindly trusting every man who claims to have his best intentions in mind." He counters.
