[D2 LM] Joust: Warryn Wydman vs. Androw Ashford

[House Ashford]

The first jousts of the tournament were about to begin.

The sun shone down on the lists; positioned so the lanes ran north-south, the lists were designed to give both jousters an angle that kept the sun, no matter the time of day, out of their eyes. Now, with the sun up above, shadows leaned ever so slightly westward.

The crowd roared with applause as the jousters took to the field. Ser Androw Ashford, heir to the House Ashford, raised a hand, waving to the crowd and gave a wink to his sister as he waited for his challenger to appear.

[Warryn Wydman]

Ser Warryn Wydman would not be tardy. He sat on his horse, his breastplate was newly shined, his shield displaying the amazing Wydman heraldry.

He gave a bow to his opponent. "Greetings Ser Ashford. I look forward to our bout." He was full of good nature, ignoring any attempts at panic.

He scanned the crowd briefly, looking for familiar faces.

[House Ashford]

"Mmm," the Ashford heir makes a noise, nodding slightly. "I hear your grandfather was something of a champion." His squire appears at his side, tossing up his helmet which Androw carefully slides on his head, "We'll have to test that today, won't we?"

[Warryn Wydman]

Warryn rolled his shoulders. "The first Warryn Wydman beat five opponents in one day, losing to a sixth only because his horse gave out." He held out his hand for his lance. "It feels like cheating to only give it one go, but I am a bit rusty."

[House Ashford]

"Then we'll have to make this count, won't we?" The Ashford boy laughs and rides to his end of the field where a squire hands him up a lance. He waits, raising it to the sky to signal his readiness.

Warryn got his own spear, and then moved to the back, ready.

"To a good bout Ser." Was his last word before raising it in the air.

Warryn eyed his opponent, trying to gather up his wits about him.

The Ashford lordling wore a set of, it seemed, well fitting plate engraved with the sigil of the Ashford sun on the breastplate. The light reflected off in in the midday sun. He seemed well suited, sitting in his horse, like he was born to it. Suddenly, he spurred the horse and charged forward, his eyes up...

Warryn smiled beneath his helmet as he rode. The hit registered on his shield, but it glanced by. His own hit went wide sadly.

The Ashford knight didn't even have to move as his opponent's spear went wide. His own impacted on the shield of the Wydman, shattering in a spray of wood. The crowd cheered. As the horses slowed and a servant brought another spear to him, Androw called to his opponent, "Is this some new form of jousting from the Vale? I must admit, it's an... interesting technique."

It only takes a moment for him to spin around for another pass...

Well, this won't do.

"Wanted to see if you'd get scared and jump off. Glad to see it's not the case."

He turned again, readied his spear and charged. His spear caught on the shield though not enough to dislodge its owner.

"That's more like it!" Androw calls, brushing some shards off his horse. "Now, once more! With feeling this time, Wydman!"

"Wouldn't want to embarrass you Ser Androw." He hit the shield with a solid blow, the lance coming apart from the force. "Oops."

[House Ashford]

The hit was solid but the Ashford knight stays in his saddle with ease. A piece of the shattered spear appears to be jammed between the plates of his armor. Glancing down as he stops, Androw grabs hold of the spike and rips it out; the end is tipped with blood. He looks at it for a moment, shifting his wounded arm, and tosses the shard of wood down.

"Another!" he shouts to the page at list side. The boy reluctantly passes up another lance and Androw Ashford settles in for another pass.

Warryn frowned... this seemed to be too serious. He accepted his own spear, Androw's injury causing him to miss wide.

The two spears collide again; the impact clearly takes the air out of Androw but he manages to, barely, hold himself in the saddle. He breathes deeply, obviously very strained.

"Once more!" he spits through gritted teeth and waves to the page, looking for another lance for another pass.

Warryn gritted his teeth as he was hit, but he weathered it well, staying on his own horse. His own lance hit the shield again squarely, with determination. His own jovial nature was gone, replaced by a cold strength. End this now, before you get hurt, fool.

The hit is solid; Androw's arms folds slightly and there's a cry of pain.

The lordling totters and topples from the horse, not even able to attempt to hold himself in place. There's a thump as he hits the ground. He attempts to pull himself to a sitting position but simply slumps back. The crowd is silent.

Androw takes two injuries to avoid damage from the hit but falls from the saddle, taking 7 more damage.
Androw is unconscious.

Warryn immeaditely slowed, threw his lance to the side, careful not to hit anyone, and jumped off, rushing with the pages.

"That damn fool." He checked quickly to make sure he was alive.

When confirmed, he turned to the spectators, and raised his arms into the air. "Right Makes Might!"

Slowly, Lord Ashford rises to his feet, mouth firm, "Ser Wydman is our winner."

There is scattered applause from the crowd. Sitting in the box with the Ashfords is Lord Wydman. Ythan lets a rare smile cross his lips before it vanishes.

Tough crowd.

"Well fought Ser Ashford." He said it loud enough for others to hear. This was easy. It's only going to get tougher from here on out. He saw his father's smile, and smiled back. For a brief moment, all was well.
