[D2 LM] The First Break: Joust Main Event Observation

[Derrick]

The young man shook his head. "No need for you to apologize. I should of explained a bit better myself." Perhaps if he'd had a bit more experience talking with ladies he could of explained himself better.

"Ah, I serve the Algoods as a guard and Man-at-arms, Milady." It was a simple answer, and it looked like he was going to leave it that way before he added a bit more. "It's pretty boring work most days, watching gates and patrolling. Sometime we have to ride out after bandits or the like though."

[Kaelyn Dunn]

"It sounds as though you have a strong desire to protect people. That's very admirable. Is there something you're hoping to do in the future?"

[Derrick]

"I dunno about that exactly, just fighting is about the only thing I know. It's kind of the family business, my father is a guard, his father was a guard, and his father was one two. Been that way for a long time, or at least that's what I've been told." At the question he ran a hand through his hair. "Well, I kinda want to be a Master of Arms... Don't know if I will ever get there though."

"What about you? Something you're interested in doing, Milady?"

[Tomas Flowers]

"It sounds as though you have a strong desire to protect people. That's very admirable. Is there something you're hoping to do in the future?"

Tomas looks to his sister. Oh. Is she being nice or.... Tomas begins scrutinizing the man-at-arms. Clearly, he's not good enough for sister. But he begins considering how much of a threat he is. Good thing he came when did. I guess this means I shouldn't stop to watch the pretty servants girls.

[Kevan Dunn]

Seeing no interest in talking to him coming from any corner, Kevan left.

[Derrick]

Tomas looks to his sister. Oh. Is she being nice or.... Tomas begins scrutinizing the man-at-arms. Clearly, he's not good enough for sister. But he begins considering how much of a threat he is. Good thing he came when did. I guess this means I shouldn't stop to watch the pretty servants girls.

If Derrick knew the young man thoughts he would of easily denied him. He was a commoner after all, and had no business trying anything romantic with a young noblewoman. Noticing the boy's scrutiny he tries to bring him into the conversation. "And you Mister Thomas? Is there anything you wish to do in the future?"

[Tomas Flowers]

Tomas takes a moment to consider. "I'd like to be master of the kennels someday. I'm a good hunter too." Tomas didn't mean it as some sort of subtle threat. He was 11 and while he was concerned with some rapscallion doing something to dishonor his sister, he wasn't a whisperer or a psychopath. He was a good hunter and proud of it.

[Derrick]

Derrick simply didn't take it that way. "That's a fine profession and a fine skill, I've never been too good at hunting myself. Just fighting really. I suppose that come's with being raised by a bunch of guards though."

"Do you plan to do any hunting while you're here?"

[Tomas Flowers]

"I've done some already. Though not as much as I would like, but I plan to change that."

[Kaelyn Dunn]

"That reminds me, Tomas. I was hoping to arrange a hunt for a few of the competitors I met yesterday. Most claim they are not proficient, but seemed to think they'd enjoy it. Derrick, you're welcome to come along as well."

"As to what I hope for my future, I'm not flush with options," she let out the smallest of laughs. "I'm hope to wed someone that will help my House Dunn, and have children. Of course, I will insist that any man I marry be in need of a kennel master." She smiled at her brother.

She didn't know if Tomas realized she was serious in that; unless he objected, she wanted to make his inclusion a part of any negotiation. She wanted to be near any nieces and nephews, and see Tomas provided for.

[Derrick]

He was about to answer Tomas when Kaelyn rejoined the conversation, and Derrick paused a moment before giving an answer. "Thank you Mi'lady, I'll consider it." The young solider replied at last with a small smile, though something in his tone made the otherwise noncommittal words seem like a refusal.

"I wish you luck in that then, Milday. I hope whoever you might wed meets all your expectations and more." It was a honest response, though what Tomas would make of it could be any number of things.

[Tomas Flowers]

Tomas smiles to his sister. "Absolutely. I'd love to help your friends." Tomas wasn't sure if his sister mentioning her future meant she was considering this Derrick guy or not. Nor did he know if he should take Derrick's response as a generic comment or a sign of interest. Romance was complicated.

He sighed internally. At least, if she does take someone beneath her station, they'll have less of a chance of stealing her birthright. Well, that or a Dornish man.

"You should come. If you want, we can practice with a bow some before the hunt."

[Derrick]

The young man probably didn't know what he was asking, he was likely a bit too young to really understand after all. The last thing Derrick wanted to feel like was a extra or a baggage carrier. Still he could likely keep the youth company if nothing else. "If my lord has no need for my services otherwise." He offered, it was probably the closest to a yes the pair would receive.

"I could do with working on my marksmanship, though I've not brought a bow of my own... I do have a sling, if you think that would work instead?"

[Tomas Flowers]

Tomas shrugs. "It depends on how good you are with it."

[Derrick]

"I'm better with a sword." Was his more then honest answer. "I need to spend more time with it, and bows in the future. Should I ever find the time." It was rather hard to find of late. ever since he started working if he was honest.

"So any time you might want to practice let me know, I'll join you for it."

[Tomas Flowers]

Tomas nods. "You can always use my bow for when we practice. I should have some time tomorrow if you want."

[Derrick]

"I might have some time in the afternoon. " He glanced towards the young man. "We'll have to see about the box though. I may be a bit too tall to use yours."

"Maybe I can see if I can borrow one from one of the other guards."

[Kaelyn Dunn]

She was happy to see her brother and Derrick getting along. She hadn't been with her brother as much as she would have liked and she wanted him to have friends; to show him he was worth more than he thought. She had a feeling Derrick and he had this in common. To be honest, she suffered from it as well. So much vanity had been drilled into her. 'Look your best at all times; mind your manners and you'll make a good match for your house.'

She shook the thoughts away and smiled sweetly. "Wonderful! That makes us, Ser Allard Terrick, Ser Walder Rivers, Ser Davelyn Sand, and Lord Wydman for a hunt. I met them all yesterday while watching Lord Warryn and Ser Davelyn spar. Alessia moved on before I could see if she was interested."

[Derrick]

That seemed like an awful lot of Sers, most of which he didn't know. Still he'd let them all fight over the young ladies attention and concentrate on other things himself. Hunting among other things.

"She didn't seem much like the hunting type when I met her, I could be wrong though. So there is no harm in asking her should you meet her again. Any ideas of when you were planning the hunt?"
