[D4 MA] Tea for Two or Four

Post by Kaelyn Dunn » Mon Sep 04, 2017 6:39 am

Kaelyn was helping the servants finish the table when she saw Lady Wylla and her guard turn the corner. She smiled as they approached, and walked to meet them. "Lady Terrick, Ser Rivers." She curtsied. Just because the Lady couldn't see her did not mean that she was undeserving of the same respect she would give anyone else. "I am excited to finally have the chance to speak with you. I have heard nothing but good things."

Walder bowed. "M'lady. Tis a good day for a hunt."
"Och."

Wylla would smile as the woman spoke, inclining her head respectfully as she approached. "Well met, my hostess. I would imagine myself somewhat surprised at having such a bountiful reputation. Most who hear of me expect some sort of haughty and arrogant girl, I believe. I am relieved rumors of me can also be pleasant."

Tomas was there and gives a bow as he greets the guests. "Hello. I'm Tomas Flowers, Kaelyn's brother."

Kaelyn touched her arm gently and slowly as they reached the table. She knew her escorts would help her into her seat but Kaelyn wanted Wylla to have something tangible of her to reference.

"Quite the contrary. I've heard you're a proper, wise, and measured, true Lady. As such, I was most anxious to meet you; hoping some of that wisdom might rub off."

Kaelyn went on to explain the table set for them. "I have asked this lovely girl Elena to stay and serve you, if you'd like. If you'd prefer to do it yourself, the sugar is on the left, the cream is on the right, and your cup and cake plate are just in front of you there." Kaelyn had made sure the table was set with a mind to Wylla so she might reach for things without the possibility of burning herself accidentally on the tea.

"And it is equally lovely to meet you, young Tomas. You seem quite charming, perhaps I should have brought Desmond here as well."

The girl smiled as Kaelyn would guide her, accepting it graciously, and moving to sit, as she'd nod in her hostess's direction. Wylla's demenor seemed something between amused, grateful, and quite pleased at the arrangements, as she placed her hands in her lap and thought for a moment, before closing her eyes in delight.

"You are doing much more than I expected. I would be remiss to not accept the support you provide a guest, so I shall rely upon you, Miss Elena. As far as my wisdom, my mentor would suggest I only have a talent for relevant information. I find knowing how to use what one has can be much more potent than trying to store countless hoards of knowledge in a single head. Perhaps you had something you wished to discuss?"

Kaelyn smiled. "I'm happy you are pleased. I do agree; being grateful for and using what one has is best." As the gentlemen were seated, she smiled and offered each some of the honeyed tarts she'd had prepared.

"At the time I extended the invitation, I had nothing particular on my mind. I simply wanted to meet you. I must admit, to speak honestly, a small part of it was due to your affliction. At The Burrow, one of the maids has a daughter who is also blind. I've taken a liking to her and wanted to be sure I could tell her about you, and that she need not hold back her dreams. But now, I'd be a fool not to seek your wisdom at such a time, after the tragedy that befell the Reach yesterday."

Wylla would nod, signalling Elena to grant her a modestly sweet cup of tea, as she listened and took a small polite sip of it. She'd remain quiet until she felt Kaelyn had managed to get out what she could, before making another deliberate pause, and letting her smile grow a bit.

"You earn my respect, Lady Kaelyn. You cannot comprehend how few people are straightforward with me, especially of my affliction. I am not of great use to my father, far less than I might have been. But potential is merely another term for natural gifts. Please tell this girl, who's life style is surely different to my own, that her lack of that gift may in fact be a benefit. She could be marketable and useful, should she apply herself and receive the support of those around her. In fact, as she grows, you may find great use for her. A woman who can listen and speak with you, but never see what she is naught allowed."

"I am honored to have earned your respect, but truly, I feel I've done nothing exceptional. We spoke of gifts earlier, and guile is as far down on my list as it gets. Yes, I can be mannerly, I was taught as much. But honesty and openness seems to work best for me." Kaelyn was sure Wylla could hear the smile on her face through her words.

"I will relay your message to young Dyana when I return home. I know she will be thrilled to she was discussed by two Ladies and two Gentlemen. She has a beautiful song voice, and she is learning to play an instrument. And I agree, having help from someone who can keep an extra level of discretion could be quite coveted. As for your use to your Father, I am confident many will see your true worth. You may yet be of greater worth than many others."

Walder let the two ladies converse amongs themselves, after making sure the room was secure. He looked to the lad, a slight flash of pity came across his face but he hid it quickly.
"So, lad I couldn't help but notice your..." He gestured to his face.
"Och."

When the Desmond was mentioned.... "Oh. Desmond. I like him. We met while hunting in the woods. I met Walder too."

When his fellow bastard brings attention to his greyscale, Tomas gets uncomfortable. He looks down and says quietly (but loud enough Walder should be able to hear), "It's not contagious."

Knowing that the blind have exceptional hearing, Kaelyn winced. She had hoped that her brother would be able to interact with someone that didn't know of his scars the moment they met him. But with Lady Wylla, she was so grounded, she knew she would treat Tomas no different whether she knew or not. Still, Kaelyn put a supportive hand on his shoulder to show that she was not scared or ashamed to be his sister.

"Perhaps I can be of some use, still. We shall see. I treasure openness and honesty. You are still young enough to fully embrace it, and I suggest you do. I have had many a negotiation where one might try to deceive or sway with possibility. I, however, have never found any method more capable than that of the truth. There are ways one can look at it, and through effort they can see realistic and beneficial results. That is my true gift, to allow one to see what I see."

The girl would move to smile to Walder and Tomas, inclining her head to both of them.

"You see, many of noble blood would take the idea of a bastard as a disposable tool. Something they can use without ever considering the consequences. I detest that notion. Regardless of parentage, noble blood lines their veins same as you or I. So I look at my friends, such as Walder or my attendant Gouren, and even those I encounter here. And I implore them to never cast their eyes to the ground. Ironic, or no~ They are valued friends with capabilities that often bypass my own."

Walder nodded to the lad. "Aye, I know lad. Tis a hard life, but I'm sure you can make the most of it." His tone was compassionate.
When Wylla raised her attention to them he nodded. "Thank you m'lady. Your words are truly inspiring."
"Och."

"I will take that to heart and try not to lose my truthful inclinations. It may one day be harder, but I will remember this conversation at those times, I'm sure."

She took a sip of the tea. "You and I are perfectly aligned on the idea of parentage. I have a Dornish mother who impressed upon me those values. She does not treat Tomas here like anything other than my brother. And he has many gifts." She squeezed Tomas' shoulder before bringing her hand to the honeyed tart on her plate.'

"If I might indulge in your honesty, I would love to hear your opinions on the tragedy yesterday. I am often completely baffled by politics and would truly value any advice you might have for me. As someone from the Reach, the event directly effects me but I am at a loss when it comes to my place and how I should help."

Tomas head snaps. She can see? "Um.. Thank you mam."

He gives his fellow bastard a nod. "I will."

He becomes more relaxed at his sister's reassuring squeeze, becoming more comfortable.

Wylla smiled a bit, delicately folding her arms in her lap as she'd take a moment to consider things. Her voice would be a bit slower, much more serious and somber.

"I have concerns. But none which are polite to speak of, or that my station would allow. Those of Tyrell should not be quiet on this matter. I don't believe it will sit well if people believe the ruling class can simply murder their beloved overseers. Intentional or otherwise... it means that they will feel less secure themselves. When a man believes those more protected and greater than he can be so casually disposed of... it means he can simply be forgotten, and who will fight for his honor? His loss? That plants dark, dangerous seeds."

Kaelyn nodded as Wylla spoke, and played with the tart on her plate. "It might be unusual for a Lady, I'm not certain. Perhaps it is because I am half Dornish, or my love for my brother..." She smiled Tomas' way, "but the opinions of those in the charge of Lords and Ladies has always been a priority for me. I had not thought of the consequences in respect to how the loss might make them feel a deficit of safety for themselves. Perhaps after returning to The Burrow I should set aside time with those I know to reassure them. Assure them I am making myself available to speak with anyone feeling unsure."

Kaelyn was amazed and in a state of wonder with regards to Wylla. She was so mannerly and well-spoken… Kaelyn often thought herself to be such things but she was in awe of this Lady’s talent. She found herself wanting to learn from her, even more so than she had when she first made the invitation.

“Earlier you mentioned you had a mentor when it came to the ways of being a Lady. Was this a Septa like my own mentor, or another? I don’t mean to pry, but your manners and etiquette exceed my own and it interests me.” She was quick to explain. “I don’t mean that in a self-deprecating way. Merely an awe-filled observation.”
