(D1 A) Challenger Approaching

[Arwyn Forrester]

"They say we are our own worst critics... I agree, it was impressive," she replies with a nod and a smile. "What heights do you hope your skill to reach one day? Where would you be satisfied?"

[Derrick]

""Uh... well." He reached up a hand to scratch his head, a slightly embarrassed smile on his lips. "I can't say I've really given it much thought. I just think I can be better, so I want to be better." He offered at last with a small shrug.

"Sorry I can't be any more specific then that."

[Alessia]

Alessia was about to say something about him attempting to be modest, but when he answered Arwyn's question all she could manage was a brow raised high and a puzzled look on her face.

[Derrick]

He frowned softly his eyes turning towards Alessia. "Did I say something strange?" He asked his own expression a bit curious.

[Alessia]

"In all the time you must have spent training that sword arm you've never thought once of it?" she asked incredulously.

[Derrick]

The frown deepened for a moment, his expression becoming thoughtful. "Other then better? Not really... not that i can think of anyways. I mean I kind of want to be a master of arms one day. So I suppose you could say that's my goal?"

"Never really wanted to be the best swordsman in the land or anything though? I guess I'd be satisfied being as good as I can be?"

[Alessia]

Alessia's laugh tinged with her annoyance, stepping away from the man she marked out her paces and then looked to Arwyn.

"I am sorry Milady, but if you would pardon me a moment," she said before looking back to the man. Drawing her blade and her dagger her eyes held a fire. Alessia needed to know, she was determined to know right now. "Draw your sword."

[Derrick]

Derrick raised a quiet eyebrow as he watched the woman for a moment. He didn't bother reaching for his actual steel, he still had the practice blade in his hands after all

"I take it you are wanting a spar milady?" He asked after a moment.

[Alessia]

"Exactly, if you wish to speak lesser of your own ability you will either have to prove that the display before was a farce or you will have to prove that you are better than me," she said, twirling her dagger about between her fingers.

"I win, you can go back to pretending to not be as skilled as you really are. I lose, you are never allowed to speak lesser of your ability again."

[Derrick]

"It seems you did quite a bit of misunderstanding me Milady, and I also see you did well in demanding terms only to your advantage." He shrugged.

"I never said I wasn't good after all. Just that I never trained to be the best, just to be better. Don't figure you'll listen though so I'm ready when you are."

With that he took a fighting stance.

[Alessia]

Alessia didn't smile, in fact there were no traces of a smile, not even the subtle glow that she usually wore. Eyes focused on where she was going to strike, she came forward the instant the man took a fighting stance with her blade. Moving with a fluid motion to come about and tap the side of his armor with her blade, enough to remind him of the opening.

[Derrick]

There was an opening but as her blade swept in he shifted slightly taking the hit on one of the thicker parts of his armor. Even if it hadn't been a tap it was doubtful it would of done much damage, and it didn't even raise a grunt from his lips.

His own counter, game quickly after, though he didn't aim for the lady herself but her sword.

Greater action: Disarm attempt keeping 5 23+1 from longblades one =24 needed a 21 to disarm someone with fighting 4. So unless Alessia has a modifier her weapon lands. 5 yards away

[Alessia]

With her weapon wrenched from her grasp she followed the motion and moved toward her fallen blade. Keeping herself just out of his reach whether he followed or not.

[Derrick]

The younger man would remain where he was, letting the woman retrieve her weapon, as he watched her cautiously.

[Alessia]

Approaching again, she stepped just out of reach and watched the man for a moment.

[Arwyn Forrester]

Arwyn watches the exchange with interest, eyebrows up as she watched them suddenly break into a spar.

[Derrick]

He still wasn't sure how it came to this, but he was going to follow through he had to at this point. Taking a few steps forward he took a cautious swing at the older girl. Shoring up his own defenses.

It would of been quite the vicious blow if he didn't pull back at the last moment, delivering a sharp rap against her ribs.

[Alessia]

After the hit the woman let out a groan, Derrick landed a pretty good hit against her and she was going to have to remember that opening. Alessia moved to close the distance, dashing aside his sword for a moment with a quick parry to open him up to an attack at his core with her dagger. However, just as she lunged forward with it Derrick was able to duck himself out of the way and evade her attack.

[Derrick]

That was good, and a small smile crossed the young man's lips for a moment. Still it had been a poorly timed attempt and he was going to exploit it. Taking a moment to line up his blow he struck.

It was a powerful thrust, aimed towards her vitals, and it likely would of been quite painful if he didn't shift his aim at the last moment, hitting someplace far less telling and pulling his blow as best as he could

[Alessia]

A strike to her stomach, another groan, but the woman wasn't done yet. Bringing her blade down to guide his sword away again she came in and exchanged a couple parries before slipping in with her dagger and placing it against his arm, an unprotected spot. Had she the intent to do some actual damage the cut would have been nasty.

With a grin, she slipped away enough to continue the bout.

[Derrick]

It would of been nasty, and it seemed to be the first time either of his opponents truly had him in a dangerous situation that day. something that honestly rather pleased the young man. Perhaps that is what caused him to be a bit overzealous in his next attack, stepping forward he used his shield to push her weapons high as his sword struck low. Delivering a stinging blow to her thigh.

He pulled it as much as he could, but it still likely hurt more then he intended, so afterwards he took a few steps back, giving the woman time to recover if she needed it.

[Arwyn Forrester]

Arwyn found herself watching the match with great interest, leaning forward to watch both of the combatants, particularly Alessia, following their movements and the back and forth.

[Alessia]

"Mmm," she vocalized, keeping the expletive from her lips as she had to lean over and grasp the spot he hit her good. When he stepped away she made no move to make the fight seem like it wasn't over, he knew and she knew how solid of a hit that was. Had it been a proper blade she very well would have lost the leg there.

"I yield," she says, correcting herself and slipping away her blades. "There is no coming back from that, you've got me."

[Derrick]

"You have a very fine hand with a blade Milady." Derrick offered after a moment. "That last attack of yours was a fine one." He paused a moment before continuing.

"You have my apologies as well, I should of checked that last blow better."

[Arwyn Forrester]

She clapped lightly. "I may not be an expert, but both of your skills are impressive. I appreciate having been able to be witness to them."
