[D2 LM] The First Break: Joust Main Event Observation

"I assume by that you mean I'll be looking down at my defeated opponents." He gave her a fierce grin and wondered how long it would take Ser Androw to recover.

"Well Ser Warryn has certainly set a good example to an aspiring Knight. Of which there must be many in this crowd."

She lets out a breath out of her nose that might've been a snort if she didn't work so hard maintaining her image. "True. There's even something to be taken from those defeated," she notes.

[Kaelyn Dunn]

She smiled still. "I respect that." She watched as gyrfalcon turned round and flew back to her, settling next to Kaelyn, crooning loudly. "If you want another, maybe he'll give you one." she told the bird. Kaelyn extended the bag of wafers to Derrick again so he could take one to give to her bird if he so chose. "Her name Dahlia. She won't bite you."

Tomas appears approaches his sister and whoever she's with.

That was good, he really didn't have to tell her about his recent troubles, especially since most of them seemed to deal with women. Derrick let those thoughts drift away though, distracting himself with the arrival of the bird. "She's beautiful." He offered as he reached for a wafer, offering it to the gyrfalcon a few moments later.

"Have you had her long?" Further comments were cut off by the arrival of the young man, and after a moment Derrick gave him a nod in greeting.

Lady Cassana glanced to Marqus, her expression a bit serious. "It may be amusing to watch the jousts, but do remember to take note of their technique."

"Thank you. Yes, about five years now." She smiled at Derrick. "Derrick, this is my brother Tomas Flowers. Tomas, this is Derrick. He's been kind enough to indulge me while I avoid the crowds."

"Mister Tomas." Derrick offered a slightly deeper dip of his head in greeting to the younger man. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance."

"Lady Kaelyn, it was pleasant talking to you, with your brother here to keep you company, I should likely leave you two be though," He offered a small smile.

Kaliya winced visibly at the thought, "will you be challenging the champions as well?"

Martin chuckled slightly at that, although his blue-grey eyes widened just a little. "I hadn't thought to, actually. When I was younger, I'd have been clamoring for a chance. Now..." He shrugged. He didn't look that old, really. His face was a bit worn, with notable pain lines, but the rest of him seemed young enough.

He shook his head. "Well, perhaps I will. If my lord permits." He looked at her, his face a bit more animated than before, blue eyes interested. "And what of you, milady? May I know which jouster you favor?"

Lady Cassana glanced to Marqus, her expression a bit serious. "It may be amusing to watch the jousts, but do remember to take note of their technique."

His sister got a private knowing look for the snort, so in good humour. Lady Cassana's comment saw him raising an eyebrow.

"It is fine entertainment to be sure. I'm glad you're so keen for me to do well, but I make a habit of noting these techniques. Among others." He smiled politely and looked across at the next match.

"I'm going to ride in the Squire's joust today. It'll be a good chance to work on these skills." And also rock dodging, although he didn't know it yet.

"You are most welcome to stay. Dahlia seems to like you and she's an excellent judge of character." Kaelyn turned her eyes back to the jousting for a moment and applauded the latest run. "Unless, of course, you have somewhere you need to be. I am not trying to force you; merely trying to convince."

"Ah, I wasn't leaving... I was just going to leave you and your brother to your conversation." She seemed like she was expecting him after all. "If you don't mind my company though, I have enjoyed our talk... I'd like to continue." The boy's apparent disease did worry him a bit, but if the young lady was brave enough to sit by his side, Derrick wasn't goign to leave either.

Seeing the jousts mostly done and winners proclaimed, Kevan moved up the seats, looking around.

If anything, she was younger that him, but life had a way of cutting youth short sometimes. "But, alas, we arre not the childrren we used to be, and I find myself with a champion to cheerr forr."

Martin smiled at that, a small smile, but it clearly reached his eyes, making it seem all the more significant. "If we were both a bit younger, then." He chuckled. "Although, I hope you don't mind me saying, milady, if you were much younger, I'd think you weren't old enough to leave your father's house."

He turned to face her more fully, his broad shoulders shifting. His eyes grew more piercing as he looked at her. "Although, I suppose that years isn't the only way to measure age. Maybe not even the best one, sometimes."

Kaliya smiled, warm and little sad, her intensely dark eyes meeting his. They were large and expressive, one might have mistaken them for innocent, but her full red lips and glossy tumbled waves of hair suggested otherwise. She did not shy from his gaze, "something you have experrience with, serr?"

Martin smiled, again just a little, as his grey eyes met her dark ones. No smile could be seen in them, but instead a deep sadness. "Very much so, milady." He said softly. He looked at her wonderingly, eyes searching. What had happened to this lovely young woman? His eyes drifted to her full lips...

He looked back towards the jousters. "Well. I've no doubt that if you want a champion, you can find one. In fact, if you can't, I can only assume that there's something very wrong with the knights here."

Martin's hand is rough with warrior's callouses, but not otherwise, warm and dry to the touch. "I see." He replied simply in his soft deep voice. He looked at her a moment with raised eyebrows, and then gives a minute shrug, dismissing the question he'd found on his lips.

He followed her gaze. "Perhaps so. There's a surprising amount of overlap. The horse and armor really just disguise that fighting's all about trying to get your weapon into the poor bastard you're facing." He shrugged. "But I find it restful, actually. If you can believe that."

Kaliya chuckled, unfazed by his choice of words, even if the topic unsettled her slightly. "Serr Marrtin, if it is rrestfulness you seek, perrhaps you would enjoy meeting me for a cup of wine in the nearr futurre?"

Tomas thinks for a second. "Ashford is nice, but I haven't seen much. I got lost on the way here." That he got lost while noticing a particularly pretty servant girl was something he left out. Derrick might understand, but his sister was a lady.

"Have I missed anything good?"

"All the tent's and everything, I imagine it can be easy to get turned around." Especially when you weren't very tall. "You missed a bit. "Lord Warryn Wydman unseated one of Lady Ashlyn's Champions just a little bit ago. claiming the title for himself." He offered in explanation.

"The champion retained his seat in the second joust... We are on to the third now."

"Ah yes, the Squire's Joust. I may give my hand at it." She gave him a soft smirk. "Certainly I am allowed to be curious as to what it is like for you men to go strutting about on horseback in all that armor."

"Ah, I wasn't leaving... I was just going to leave you and your brother to your conversation."

"Oh, I'm so embarrassed." Kaelyn covered her mouth delicately. "I didn't mean to assume. I misunderstood you; I apologize." She lowered her eyes and tipped her head slightly.

She was surprised to hear her brother had been lost and felt a pang of guilt that they hadn't been spending more time together.

"So Derrick, what do you do? I can see that you carry a blade."
