[D3 LM] Valar Morghulis: Lyonel Baratheon vs. Leo Tyrell

Valar Morghulis
A Black Event

The mood is tense as the final joust of the day begins; Lord Leo Tyrell awaits before the box of Lord Ashford, rain pattering heavily on the awning. The party of Lyonel Baratheon arrives; the Heir of Storm's End looks angered, his face bruised and cut. He companions - armed warriors all - look like they mean serious business. He gestures to let them take cover under an awning as he approaches his opponent.

There are curt words shared, hard to hear over the driving rain, and Lord Baratheon quickly spins his horse away. The Lord of Highgardendoes the same, much slower and more measured, to take his place at the other end of the list. Both knights are soon handed their lances. The staccato bass rumble of hoof beats is audible under the downpour as the two knights make the first pass. Lances clashes on shields, exploding in a barrage of weapon shrapnel. Both knights turn, pages and squires working to hand them another lance.

Lord Baratheon shakes his head slightly as he steadies his horse, as if trying to clear something from his vision. His horse wobbles with him slightly, then they line up for the next pass. The two jousters' coursers pick up speed, tossing up clumps of mud as they near one another. Suddenly, it becomes all too obvious that Lord Baratheon's lance is tilting downwards - too far down. It looks like he struggles at the last moment to lift it, but it's too last.

The heavy spear punches through the neck of Lord Tyrell's horse. Shouts are audible over the rain as grooms, squires, soldiers, all rush in before the action has even stopped. The lord of Highgarden flips over his horse, landing with a solid crunch on his head. His horse topples behind him, pinning the lord beneath it. Lord Baratheon, for his part, tries to slow and steady his horse but instead falls from the saddle himself, landing on his side.

Lord Baratheon's companions rush to his side as he unsteadily - and clearly drunkenly - rises to his feet, his hand already going for the axe kept at his side. He casts about, ready for a fight, though somewhat surprised to see that it isn't Leo Tyrell come to face him.

The Lord Ashford rises to his feet, his daughter at his side weeping into hands pressed over her eyes. "Lord Baratheon, cease this at once!" his voice booms as loud as thunder.

The Baratheon lord seems to mutter something and his companions lock in closer around him. It doesn't seem like they're willing to give up too easy...

The Event
Valar Morghulis is a combat event limited to five participants. To sign up, post in with an Initiative roll and we'll try to do this as quickly as possible. We'll begin as soon as we have five participants.

Ywain frowned. This guy....

He had come intent on doing few tilts in practice after the matches with Tal and had been in his armour. Flipping his helmet on he strode forward. It was fighting time.

Having arrived with Baratheon and his men, Alessia found herself some ways between Lord Ashford and the Drunken Lord Baratheon. Leaving her there, hand on the hilt of her blade and in debate with herself.

This was unusual, and Derrick didn't intend to let it stand hoping from the stands he drew his longsword and dirk, his leathers being soaked by the rain.

Having been waiting to practice with Ywain after the lists of the morning were done Tal followed his friend as he approached the troublemakers. Like Ywain he was already armoured and nearby. Lowering his visor and hefting his shield and his spear, rather than a lance, taking a few steps forward out into the rain.

"..." He was still trying to put together exactly what had just happened.

Initiative 11

Combat defense = 8
Armor rating = 9
Wielding spear and large shield. Longsword sheathed.

Carries: Longsword, knife, apples and some silver.

Kevan actually took it upon himself to at least look like he participated in important stuff during the jousts so he came fully plated and armed with his great sword. How serendipitous it was! When the crap hit the windmill he knew what to do, even if he was not the quickest to react.

Initiative Order
  • Lord Ashford
  • Derrick - 11
  • Alessia - 9
  • Talieas Corbray - 6
  • Lyonel Baratheon - 5
  • Ywain - 3
  • Baratheon Ruffian #1 - 3

  • Baratheon Ruffian #3 - 2

The three ruffians group up around Lord Baratheon as the others approach, their weapons drawn, as the Laughing Knight flails around with his axe and shield.

Lord Ashford shouts from his seat, House guards already escorting the weeping Ashlyn away, "Lord Baratheon, stand down this instant." When no apparent answer comes back, he shakes his head, "Very well - there's no choice then. Take him alive!"

Well... this wasn't what he expected. Still he would do what he could. Leaving the Lord in the hands of the other lords he moved towards ruffians #1.

They weren't to be spared right?

5 dmg+5 for every extra degree.

Combat defense =10

Derrick's blade circles past the ruffian's shield, metal blade shrieking against metal blade until it struck home; the blow caused a flinch in the ruffian but the man gritted his teeth, ignoring the pain.

The Laughing Knight rights himself, "Bah, out of the way!" He barrels past one of his warriors, sending them barreling to the ground as he heads towards the attacking warrior, "I came to fight and fight I will!" Lyonel hefts his axe and brings it swinging down.

Ywain's blow lands home solidly; the blade finds its way through armor and digs deep into the guard's flesh. As the blade is pulled away, he falls to the ground, blood mixing with the muddy murk that is the ground.

The force of the jab impacts the guard, still caught off guard from Derrick's attack; the blow catches him in the side of the head - while the blade doesn't pierce the helmet he wears, the blow has enough force behind it to almost instantly crumple him to the ground.

Ruffians #1 and #2 are down and Unconcious and so cannot act.

"But I did promise to protect him," she said with a light smirk.

Now in the flow of the battle, the Fence kept up her guard as she moved with the fight to be closer to Baratheon. Guarding one of his flanks, focusing on keeping herself from offering any openings to the swordsman she already saw were quite skilled. Dodging, weaving around sword strikes with acrobatic flair it was hard to find a way to pin her down.

"Your men aren't doing so well, milord," she spoke over her shoulder as she struck out again, against Derrick. Making an attempt at keeping him out of the fight.

"You should both yield." Grunted the man-at-arms his wounds apparently not nearly as bad as they seemed. The most of the last blow frome the fencer was absorbed by Derrick leathers as he turned his attention towards Lord Baretheon.

Sending a solid kick at The bear in hopes of knocking him from his feet. Derrick then turned his blade towards the man.

Lesser action: knockdown =13
Lesser action attack = 1/17 if I get +1 from
5 dmg + 1 free degree and 5 extra long blades fighter

The blow is solid, but most of it seems to be absorbed by Lyonel's heavy plate. The same armor poses an issue, though, as he hauls himself back to his feet.

"Not a Seven-damned chance, boy! Do you know who I am?" he roars as he comes to his feet.

Iniative: 11, AP penalty needs applied

The blow is solid, leaving a dent in the armor that clearly hits the wearer's skin; but the Baratheon still remains conscious, roaring in pain.
