Sparing weapons we have ruled as base weapons with one less damage. Long sword is just athletics for example, Damage is reduced by armor, but is really only fatigue. You might end up with a few bruises but nothing really bad. when you hit 0 you are too winded to continue.
We start with Initiative, which is your agility. You get bonus dice for ranks of quickness, and subtract a number equal to your armor penalty.
Combat defense is on Page 154 but is Agility+ Awareness + Athletics - Armor Peanlty + Any defensive from Off-hand weapon
Derrick is 3 + 3 + 4 - 0 + 4 Large Shield
Initiative = 15Combat Defense = 14
Armor Rating = 4
House Algood * Man-at-arms * Young Adult * Status 2 *
