[LM D1] Bread & Salt [Red & Black]

Post by Rahvin » Fri Aug 25, 2017 12:56 am

As the Lord Ashford enters the Great Hall, the gathered crowds fall silent - and drop to their knees almost as one at the sight of Prince Baelor and Prince Maekar behind the lord of the castle. Baelor smiles and waves the crowd to their feet; Maekar scowls, dropping into his seat while Lord Ashford speaks.

"Friends, as lord of the castle, I welcome you to Ashford." He smiles - and it seems a sad smile - and gestures to the princes, "And I am glad to welcome our Princes Baelor and Maekar to this celebration of my daughter's name day!" Applause breaks out in the cramped chamber.

He waits for a long moment for the noise to die down. "Before we begin, I offer you all the ancient guest rights of bread and salt. And," he says with a slight smile, "wine to wash it all down with." He claps his hands and the doors to the kitchen open; servants poor from the door with fresh loafs of piping hot bread and pitchers of salt and wine...

From Day Two forward, the character(s) with the most Hospitality points will receive a +1B for any Intrigue Rolls made against any members of House Ashford or House Targaryen.

If Prince Baelor receives the most Toasts, this event is considered to have been won by the Red.
If Prince Maekar receives the most Toasts, this event is considered to have been won by the Black.
Portraying: Lord Ashford, the Targaryens, the Forresters, the Terricks, the Wydmans

Cassana Algood performed with no merit nor disgrace when it came to accepting the bread. She merely acted as fit for one of her station. Her speech for her hosts, however, was much more enticing. "It is with great honor that I attend here, Lord Ashford. And who better to host a tournament than a man such as yourself?" She gave Darryn a charming smile and then turned to face the Prince of Dragonstone.

"If I am to speak of exceptional knights, then I must also admire Prince Baelor Targaryen!" She held up her wine glass to the man with the same pleasing smile. "May the gods smile upon you and your efforts to deliver the Seven Kingdoms into an age of prosperity!"

Allard participated in the ceremony keeping himself silent and respectful while others made their speeches and toasts. Finally it was his turn to say some words. He opened his speech by giving his thanks to their host Lord Ashford and his congratulations to Lady Ashlyn for her name's day.

He then offered praises to King Daeron, the second of his name, and to his Hand, first son and heir, Baelor the Prince of Dragonstone. '' My Lords and Ladies, without doubt our realm prospers by the wise council of our Prince. May the gods continue to inspire his father, our king, and our prince so that the Seven Kingdoms continue to have peace and prosperity.'' He raised his cup and offered a toast to the Targaryen.

It would seem that his words worked.

Davelyn is present for the ceremony, and he goes through all the motions as he is supposed to. He accepts the bread and completes that part of the ceremony as expected, but in the process the Westerosi take note of his Surname. From that point on he is basically ignored, despite his offered words being respectful and heartfelt. People simply don't care to hear what just another bastard has to say.

Having crossed paths with Maekar's youngest son at the Citadel on a couple of ocassions, Oswell decided to honor the younger brother with a toast. This was slightly more well received than his words to Lord Ashford and when Oswell lowered his cup, there were a few nods of agreement from the crowd.

Alessia had never really been in a lords Hall, even when she was younger. Despite her confidence, despite her charm, it would appear there were a number of customs for a Westerosi hall that she had either forgotten or never cared to learn. Though her words were filled with a certain level of humor and charm, this was not the place for it as it appeared.

Anyway, she wasn't straight kicked out of the hall and had plenty of wine and conversation ahead of her.

Wylla Terrick would smile, as she'd happily worm her way through the crowds of nobles. Despite a lack of sight, she seemed to know exactly the best way to move, having been to all too many of these events. Her retainer offered mild assistance, allowing her to find a visible enough place to sparkle for the audience of the upper echelons. Upon taking her bread, and accepting a womanly potion of it, she would bow to those above her. Not the greatest of efforts, but that was not her moment, this was. Offering a few flowering words to the Ashfords, thanking him for the fine meal, the perfect arrangement... but most of all, a chance to celebrate his daughters coming of age in such spectacular fashion, she would raise a toast to Prince Maekar. Satisfied with the results, Wylla would bow away from the limelight, allowing the next courtier their chance to upstage her.

Post by Ser Ywain Kestrel » Fri Aug 25, 2017 3:00 am

Ywain entered the hall trying his best to seem calm and collected. Like a knight should be. Alright, first big court event as a knight. Just don't walk into any walls or start any fights. I mean, you don't really know anyone here to pick a fight with so that should be easy.

Right?

Years of practice got him through the basics of the ritual. He found his seat. Pillars, walls, and other feast goers all successfully avoided.

Wait. Am I alone at this table? DID I AVOID TOO MUC- No, calm down there are others joining now. We have got this.

Lord Ashford gave an expectant look. Oh Sweet Mother, I am expected to say something here aren't I?

"Uh, wh- Thank you Lord Ashford for, um, hol-Hosting! This eve-tournament," he said stumbling over his words. Before too many snickers could break out the Lord took pity on him, said some quick platitude and moved on.

I wish I was back home fighting bandits...

Desmond did his best to carry himself properly, accepting the bread graciously as the Heir of House Terrick should. As eyes turned to him, he looked to the princes and realized he had no idea what to say. He had questions for them, mostly about dragons, some about dogs, one about both, but he didn't have a toast to offer.

"Umm... as my sister and cousin say, good health to you both."

Warryn entered the hall with a confident swagger, accepting the bread with the dignity and grace of the Andals.

When it came to his speech, he readied himself. "Thank you for this invitation, Lord Ashford! I am looking forward to fighting men other than mountain savages."

OH yeah! Wait, why was no one clapping?

Warryn raised a cup of wine towards the princes as a last futile gesture before sitting down.

Everything was so bloody hot round these parts. He was so focused on not burning his mouth or fingers that he was completely distracted.

"Oh. Ah, thanks for, everything."

At least he started to pick up steam after a poor start.

"I mean, thank you Lord Ashford. It's a right honour to be here with the Kingdom's finest."

Nobody seemed that interested in what a northern lad had to say...

There was the bread. There was the salt.

All he had to was just dip it in.

He had done it a hundred times already. "My thanks and I am honored to--" He let the bread slip out of his hands for a moment before catching it as it fell to the ground. "honored to be hear." He give a bit of a nervous smile to the Lord before turning to the others in presence. His face turns over to Arryk to see if he noticed before turning back to Algood.

"Uhh..thank you for your hospitality, Lord Algo--Ashford. Yes." A nervous laugh as he begins to make haste away from those presence, his face as red as the Lion of his sigil and took his seat, not bothering with the toast.

Post by Kaliya Redding » Sat Aug 26, 2017 1:00 am

Kaliya stepped forward, the full skirt of her daring dress swishing elegantly as she did. She could feel eyes on her, on the exposed panels of golden skin, and it brought a smile to her lips. She barely noticed the heat of the bread as she accepted it, dabbing the crust in the coarse salt with grace. It was possible that her exotic accent, or her exotic looks, or some combination of both distracted people from her empty words of gratitude to Lord Ashford, the R in his name rolling off her tongue. Still, she hit all the salient points and made all the correct noises, even if it was some rote pat with no real thought behind it.

When she accepted the cup of wine, it was clear that she only had eyes for one of the princes, her intense gaze lingering on his silver hair and stunning violet eyes. Even the violent scar across his face served to enhance his features, and her dark eyes drink him in as she raises the cup and toasts to his health. Turning to go, she catches the young Lord Dunn's eye and winks to him.

Kaelyn entered the crowded room inconspicuously with Tomas. Parties tended to be where she was taught to shine but she’d never been to a gathering with royalty so close she could practically reach out to touch them. Luckily, her instincts took over.

She dipped her head and took the bread and salt with a proper smile. “I am honored to be here for your lovely daughter’s nameday, Lord Ashford.”

Okay, that went well. It was then that she realized she was likely squeezing the feeling out of her poor brother’s hand. Despite it, he gave her an encouraging smile, letting her know that she’d done well.

Suddenly her hand was up, grasping a cup of wine she didn’t exactly remember accepting. Cue dazzling smile. “To Prince Baelor. House Dunn is honored to be in your presence.”

As the offers of kind words and toasts went around the room it dawned on Talieas that he might be expected to say something. No other Corbrays were present after all. Ensuring he had a glass of wine ready when it came his turn the young man stood up and lifted it in salute to the host and then the princes sitting much further away with the other truly important guests. However, before he could say a word the Lord two seats down from him had risen and started a speech highlighting the generosity of the host. With some awkwardness Tal sat back down, shoulders slumping a little as he missed his chance.

His cup was drained rapidly when the next speech finally ended.

The Cafferen was not a man of words nor a man of high birth but he was a man of duty. Wearing his house's colors, the mustchioed hunter waited for this turn to receive the bread and the salt of his host. He tried not to overly concern himself with the gazes of the princes since they would be unlikey to notice someone such as him.

Despite his earlier scowl, the Prince Maekar seems to have a bit of a smirk on his face when Lord Ashford finally rises, looking a little flustered, at the ceremony's conclusion.

"I... I thank you all for coming. Tomorrow, the tournament shall begin and we shall see who the truest knights in the south are!" There is mild applause. "And I thank the Lady Wylla Terrick for her rousing words!"

Baelor, frowning slightly, rises from his seat and departs with no words. Maekar rises slowly, nodding to the crowd, and follows his brother out. The Lord Ashford follows a short distance behind, frowning intently.

Wylla Terrick: Receives a +1B to all Intrigues vs. the Ashfords and Targaryens until the end of the tournament.
