[D1 E] Drinking Dirtily at a Dornishman

[Warryn Wydman]

Warryn sat down at The Establishment of Ashford, a bit grumpily.

Today wasn't a good day. He needs to do better tomorrow. On the horse. In the joust. He recalled his memories of Warryn Wydman the first... the big man was always jovial, never giving up. Most of his children had died, yet he ploughed forward. He let out a sigh. He made sure that his family had someplace to live.

One day I'll be in his place. The thought.... didn't comfort him.

[Derrick]

The heir to the Wydman's wasn't alone that evening another young man entered the establishment and gave a look around, looking for an empty seat, and seemingly the only one he could find was across from a nobleman. Walking towards the seat the tall young man offered Warryn a polite bow in greeting. "Excuse me milord, the tavern is fairly crowded do you mind if I take this seat?"

[Warryn Wydman]

Warryn waved lazily. "Feel free lad. Warryn Wynman, heir to Old Peake." He raised his cup towards the boy. "You are?"

[Derrick]

That was quite a bit more auspicious name then what he had been expecting, and it caused Derrick to hesitate for a moment before taking a seat. "A pleasure to meet you Milord." He offered polietly as he sat. "I'm Derrick, a retainer for house Algood."

[Warryn Wydman]

"Well met Derrick." He drank from his cup before continuing. "Algoods.... Crownlads?" He asked with a frown.

[Derrick]

"The Westerlands." Derrick offered after a moment. "Though the Houses lands are quite close to the Crownlands." Or that at least was how Derrick understood it, he was no expert on geography after all. Glancing over his shoulder, he tried to get the attention of one of the serving girls. "The Wydman's are from?"

[Warryn Wydman]

"The Mountains of the Moon, on the southern parts." He waited for his companion to get his own drink, holding off anything further from now.

"Not the largest land, but rich in... well, a lot of things. Mountain clans included. How're the Westerlands?"

[Derrick]

Derrick ordered a simple ale, figuring that most everything here was going to be a bit over priced, as well a meal. Sure he'd eaten not long ago, but he was already feeling a bit peckish his growing body was seemingly constantly in need of something. "That seems like a bit of a journey, I hope it was a easy one?"

"The Westerlands are nice, though he do have out own problems, Bandits for example. I'm not sure how those compare to the mountain clans though. I've heard such men can be a serious problem?"

[Warryn Wydman]

Warryn smiled and waited. "A good knight is worth five clansmen. Unfortunately, they still outnumber us. They think the land is theirs, and they can be fierce."

He leaned back. "Bandits can be annoying though. You met a lot of them lad?"

[Derrick]

He really didn't like being called lad, but he wasn't going to mention it to the heir of a house, taking a sip of his of his ale he nodded. "I have some experience with them, not as much as some though." He was still young, and really hadn't been on the job long. "I take it you have met quite a few Clansmen?"

[Warryn Wydman]

"More than a few. I swear they grow them like fungus in caves." He took a long drink. "Annoying bloody buggers." He let out a sigh. "Besides the bandit, your home doing well?"

[Derrick]

"Fairly well, or as well as can be expected." With the heir to the family a hostage to the Lannisters, and and the constant supervision it made things difficult though. He took a slow sip of his ale. "I hope you can say the same? Despite the clansmen causing you trouble?"

[Warryn Wydman]

"Things... could be better. They're a persistent bunch, and they are more clansmen than rats in the area." He sighed, and drank again. He wanted to get away from the troubles at home, but it didn't seem it was working.

"Glad to hear things are well with the House then. How was the trip here?"

[Derrick]

"Quiet for the most part,bandits don't tend to bother a group traveling in force" Thee was a small pause as his meal arrived. "It was nice to get to see the kingdom beyond the Algood's land though. I've never really got much chance to travel."

The portion of food the lady ordered was a large one, and he looked to be about to dig in before he glanced in the direction of Warryn. "Do you mind if I eat while we talk Milord?"

[Warryn Wydman]

"Feel free Derrick. Time can be precious, and the body needs its strength." Food sounded like a good idea at the time.

"That looks good. It taste good?" He smiled. "Aye, I can understand that. My first time out of the Mountains and the Vale, so I understand."

[Derrick]

That received a nod as the young man started to dig in. It was a simple fair of stew and baked bread, but it was tasty enough for a hungry teenager. "Pretty good." He offered after a moment. "Better then what we were eating while we traveled at least." Trail food had left something to be desired.

"This is the first time you've left the valley for a tournament then? does that mean it's your first?" He thought the older man would of attended at least several already.

[Warryn Wydman]

"I've attended several tourneys, but only in the Vale though. First time I've left the Vale of Arryn." He clarified patiently.

He eyed the food, before ordering a serving for himself too. "You like what you've seen so far?"

[Derrick]

Well that made a lot more sense. "Have you won any?" The commoner asked curiously. It seemed like he might of, since he had traveled all this way after all.

"So far." He affirmed with a nod. There were loads of attractive women here after all, though most of them seemed to be nobles, so he could only look from afar. Though the one earlier had talked him. That was likely because the mystery knight wasn't talking though. "It's a bit exciting being at a big tournament like this. I don't think I've ever seen so many people in one place."

[Warryn Wydman]

Warryn sighed and shook his head. "Not yet. Placed well, yes. Not won. Been out of tourneys for a while now." He recalled finding out what happened to Jon, his face darkening.

"I feel the same. We don't have a lot of people, compared to others."

[Derrick]

"Perhaps this will be your time then?" Anything was possible after all, and while he had never seen the older man fight, he seemed skilled at least from his words.

"We have been doing quite a bit of recovery ourselves in recent years, if I'm to be honest." Derrick conceded after a few moments. "We are growing again though, which is good."

[Warryn Wydman]

"Perhaps this will be your time then?" Anything was possible after all, and while he had never seen the older man fight, he seemed skilled at least from his words.

"We have been doing quite a bit of recovery ourselves in recent years, if I'm to be honest." Derrick conceded after a few moments. "We are growing again though, which is good."

"That is my hope, aye. I need to honor my grandfather, after all, and what better time and place than here and now?"

His food arrived, and Warryn dug in too. "This is good. Growing is good. Best of luck to your House then." Another bite. "I'm hoping we'll grow soon enough."

[Derrick]

"I wish you and yours the best of luck with that Milord." The man-at-arms offered over his meal. "Is that one of the reasons you came then?"

"To perhaps find some knights in search for a Lord to serve?"

[Warryn Wydman]

"Thank you Derick." He took another bite of his food. "Perhaps. Why? You interested?" He asked with a smile... and perhaps some small hope.

The young man shrugged. "I'm just a retainer Milord, my service is to my Lord, it's not like I could just leave it." He replied perhaps a bit apologetically.

"If soldiers are something you are looking for, it could be something you could discuss with him though."

[Warryn Wydman]

"Ah that sounds like a good idea. Perhaps I will." The name Algood was starting to ring a bell.

"How do you serve your lord Derrick? Stable? Fighting man?"
